Stop it Now!
UK & Ireland 2nd Annual Conference 2004
Child
Sexual Abuse - A Public Health Issue?
The
Royal College of Physicians, London
This conference
explored the potential for tackling child sexual abuse as a preventable
public health problem. Prominent speakers from the UK and the USA
will discussed the cutting edge of policy and practice in child
sexual abuse prevention. A series of workshops allowed participants
to contribute to the growing debate on this crucial subject.
Stop it Now! believes that the potential for engaging
the public in a proactive approach to the child protection through
Stop it Now! and similar initiatives is immense. In order to make
this possible we would like to see the Government taking a lead
in developing a public health approach to child abuse prevention,
backed up by adequate resources and incorporating a systematic approach
to research into risk factors and evaluation of projects. Such a
strategy would make a major contribution to the welfare and protection
of children and links into the universal and preventative approach
of the recent Government Green Paper.
