What
we all Need to Know to Protect Our Children
Child sexual
abuse happens in secret and most victims tell no one. The abuser
is usually a family friend, neighbour, a member of the child's
family or someone working with children: he or she may be someone
we know and love. This leaflet aims to provide the information
we all need to recognise the warning signs of abuse and to build
the confidence to do something about it. Plain

Poster text reads:'Childhood
should be a time of excitement when children can discover the world
and develop at their own pace. Sadly, too many are denied this opportunity
because they are sexually abused. In most cases the abuser is someone
the child knows and trusts, maybe a parent, baby-sitter or neighbour.
But something can be done - it is the responsibility
of all adults to prevent sexual abuse by recognising the signs of
abusive behaviour at an early stage and taking action to protect
children.
If you suspect that someone you know is sexually
abusing a child, or if you are worried about your own thoughts or
behaviour towards children ring the Stop it Now! freephone helpline
now for confidential advice.'

Poster text reads: Of
course children and young people need the opportunity to explore
and develop sexually throughout their childhood. But they also need
help in setting boundaries when relating to their brothers, sisters,
cousins and friends. What appears to be a safe and mutual activity
may in fact be harmful.
If you are concerned that a child's behaviour may
be inappropriate or abusive, or you are worried about your own thoughts
or behaviour towards children, ring the Stop it Now! freephone helpline
now for confidential advice.'
