Policy Development

Stop it Now! Wales is at the forefront of working with government to help shape policy and procedure when it comes to preventing child sexual abuse.

This year, Stop it Now! Wales is calling for a more robust commitment from the new Assembly Members and for them to Act on their commitment to preventing child sexual abuse through establishing a cross-party working group on preventing abuse.

Stop it Now! is calling for the implementation of:

  • A national public information campaign to raise awareness of child sexual abuse
  • Education on child sexual abuse prevention for adults included in parenting programmes and for children and young people in schools and youth settings
  • Training for those who work with children and families
  • Integrated therapeutic services for all those affected by child sexual abuse
  • Intervention services for adults who recognise they have sexual thoughts about children

You can support this campaign by contacting Rebecca Morgan and signing our Act to Prevent petition.

Commit to Prevent!

In July 2010, Stop it Now! Wales ran the Commit to Prevent! campaign in the run up to the Assembly Election (May 2011). The campaign called for the above actions to be taken into account when parties were considering their manifestos.

The campaign resulted in over 1500 signatures from the Welsh public and 43 Assembly candidates signature, 18 of whom are now elected Assembly Members, including Gwenda Thomas AM, Deputy Minister for Children and Social Services.
