WELCOME TO STOP IT NOW! SCOTLAND
We are a national child protection charity based in Edinburgh. We believe that the key to preventing sexual abuse is awareness among parents and community members. We work to build public confidence in recognising and responding to concerns about the sexual abuse and exploitation of children. Our goal is to work towards a Scotland where child sexual abuse is eradicated.
We also provide support services to individuals and their families with problematic sexual thoughts and those who may be at risk of sexual offending. This includes those who are under investigation for internet offences. We believe that this is a critical part of preventing child sexual abuse. We also support friends and family members of individuals who are at risk of sexual offending.
NEW - Launch of Upstream website
The Upstream website was launched the 4th December 2019 at Norton Park Conference Centre in Edinburgh and was launched by Maree Todd, MSP, Minister for Children & Young People.
It aims to be the "one stop" resource for anyone who wants to know more about the prevention of child sexual abuse and how they can contribute and help. It can be accessed via https://www.theupstreamproject.org.uk/
What help can Stop It Now! Scotland offer?
Stop It Now! Scotland work to prevent child abuse happening in Scotland whether that is online or in person. We work with people who have committed offences against children or are having thoughts about doing so. Whether this is looking at child abuse images online, talking to children and young people in a sexual way online, trying to get them to send sexualised pictures of themselves or encouraging them to meet in person for sex – we can help.
Our UK based helpline is available on 0808 1000 900 and provides free confidential and anonymous advice between 9am – 9pm Monday to Thursday and 9am – 5pm on Fridays. Our Edinburgh office is open 9 – 5pm Monday to Friday and can also offer advice on a confidential and anonymous basis (via 0131 556 3535). There is no judgment – we speak to thousands of people every year and help them take action to protect children and young people.
There is also online help available. Our Stop It Now! Get Help website offers a wide range of information and advice, as well as online self-help tools and resources. These will help you to understand your behaviour, what triggers it and what you can do to stop.
We also run groupwork sessions called Inform Plus and Breaking the Links from Edinburgh and Glasgow. Find out more about our groupwork by calling 0131 5563535 or clicking here.
We offer specific support for family members of offenders through our Inform programme. This is a 6 week psycho-educational programme for family members of those under investigation for on-line offences. The aim is to help people make some sense of recent events relating to their loved one's behaviour and to build knowledge and confidence in relation to the next steps you and your loved one need to take.
What if you’re worried about someone else’s behaviour
Our office (0131 556 3535) can help you explore your concerns and provide practical steps you can take to keep children safe. Get Help is a self-help website with a range of online resources, advice and support aimed at people who know someone with inappropriate or illegal online behaviour.
