Police Scotland grooming campaign 2019

Police Scotland campaign – Stop It Now! Scotland

Stop It Now! Scotland is the strategic partner for Police Scotland’s national campaign targeting those people who groom of children online. The campaign aims to tackle the online sexual abuse of children whether that is having sexualised conversations, encouraging children to send sexualised photos of themselves, or encouraging them to meet for sex.

What help can Stop It Now! Scotland offer?

Our UK helpline (0808 1000 900) offers a free confidential and anonymous service where you can talk to someone about your thoughts and behaviours. There is no judgment – we speak to thousands of people every year and help them take action to protect children and young people. We work with people who have committed offences against children or are having thoughts about doing so. Whether this is talking to children and young people in a sexual way online, trying to get them to send sexualised pictures of themselves or encouraging them to meet in person for sex – we can help.

There is also online help available. Our Stop It Now! Get Help section offers a wide range of information and advice, as well as online self-help tools and resources. These will help you to understand your behaviour, what triggers it and what you can do to stop. There will be specific modules around grooming available from late March 2019.

We also run group work sessions from Edinburgh and Glasgow. Call us on 0131 5563535 to find out more about our group work or click here

What if you’re worried about someone else’s behaviour

The Stop It Now! UK helpline (0808 1000 900) can help you explore your concerns and provide practical steps you can take to keep children safe. Get Help is a self-help section with a range of online resources, advice and support aimed at people who know someone with inappropriate or illegal online behaviour.

What if you’re a victim of online sexual abuse / grooming

If you are a victim of online child sexual abuse, we recommend you contact the following charities and organisations who will be able to provide the help and support you need:

NSPCC Childline – a free helpline (0800 1111) for children run by the NSPCC. All calls are confidential and you won’t have to give your name if you don’t want to.

The Marie Collins Foundation – the UK charity for children who are victims of child sexual abuse and exploitation via the internet.

CEOP – a law enforcement agency that works to keep children safe from sexual abuse and exploitation.

Who are Stop It Now! Scotland?

We are a child protection charity that believes that the key to preventing sexual abuse is awareness among parents and community members. We work to build public confidence in recognising and responding to concerns about the sexual abuse and exploitation of children.

We also provide support services to individuals and their families with problematic sexual thoughts and those who may be at risk of sexual offending. This includes those who are under investigation for internet offences. We believe that this is a critical part of preventing child sexual abuse. We also support friends and family members of individuals who are at risk of sexual offending.
