Wales NATIONAL MANAGER, Claire Short
Claire Short joined Stop it Now! Wales in April 2012. Claire has worked in the childcare sector for over 15 years. Her previous roles include, playgroup manager, childcare lecturer, network co-ordinator and development officer. Her last role included working as a Business Support Officer with line management responsibilities which also involved managing 2 projects, developing and delivering a wide range of training workshops for a childcare charity.
Claire has also been involved in several Welsh Government Initiatives and has a lot of experience with multi-agency working. She was also vice-chair for the Workforce Development Group in Cardiff that provides multi-agency training for childcare sector workers. Safeguarding has always been a priority for Claire in all her roles. She has worked closely with families and other professionals. She also has extensive experience in supporting, families with additional needs. Claire covers the South and West Wales area and will deliver information and training to parents and carers, professionals and practitioners.
Wales ASSISTANT NATIONAL MANAGER, Gillian Jones
Gillian Jones joined the Stop it Now! Wales team in April 2012 as the Assistant National Manager. She has 7 years' experience within the child care sector having worked as an early years provider and more recently in a multi-agency role with a local authority supporting child care providers and vulnerable families. Prior to this, Gillian worked with North Wales Police for 15 years in police support roles delivering training, analysis and major incident support. Gillian is also an experienced school governor and recently graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree in Childhood Studies.
Being based in Flintshire, North Wales her role covers all the North Wales local authority areas and Powys delivering Stop it Now! information and training to parents and carers, professionals and practitioners.
Chair of the Stop it Now! Wales Action Group, David Hopkins
David Hopkins retired from the post of Director of Education & Leisure for Caerphilly CBC on 31st December, 2008, after 42 years' service in the public sector, including over 8 years as a Chief Officer. During that time he became Assistant Director of Education in the former Gwent County Council, followed by a similar role in Caerphilly in April 1996. He became Director in May, 2000.
In his last year of service he also acted as Interim Director of Social Services for Caerphilly and was Chair of the Local Safeguarding Children Board, the Children & Young People's Partnership and joint Chair of the Health & Wellbeing Partnership. He is immediate past Chair of the Association of Directors of Education in Wales.
David has had an interest and involvement in child protection since 1990 and was pleased to have the opportunity to Chair the Steering group of 'Stop-it-now!' Cymru, a role he took up in the Autumn of 2008 which continues.
